24 security forces killed as Gizab clash drags on

TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): At least two dozen police personnel, including an intelligence operative, have been killed during an ongoing clash with militants in Gizab district of central Uruzgan province, an official said on Monday.

Sayed Sadat Nasari, deputy governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the fight was underway between Afghan security forces and Talibaninfo-icon insurgents in the district since past three days.

He said 23 police and an intelligence operative were killed after two security check-posts collapsed. He said the fight was still ongoing and reinforcements were yet to reach the district.

Haji Faridullah, the district development council head, also confirmed the clash and added the central government was yet to support the local security forces in the area.

He said more than 60 soldiers were killed and a number of others wounded during the past three days war in the area.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the clash.
