Atmar, Wilson confer on Doha peace dialogue

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The acting foreign minister has welcomed America’s continued commitment to Afghanistaninfo-icon over the past 19 years.

Speaking to Ambassador Ross Wilson, chargé d'affaires of the US embassy here on Sunday, Hanif Atmar also referred to intra-Afghan peace talks in Doha.

The acting minister underlined Secretary of State Mike Pompeo statement at the opening ceremony for the Doha Peace negotiations.

A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the two sides voiced their satisfaction with the progress made so far, and hoped for achieving lasting peace.

Kabul’s call for the Talibaninfo-icon to declare a comprehensive ceasefire and the development of a mechanism for monitoring violence reduction also came up for discussion.

They also discussed the opportunity for expanding trilateral relations between Afghanistan, the US and Central Asian countries as part of regional mobilisation for the peace process in Afghanistan.

They stressed the need for further expanding bilateral cooperation between Afghanistan and the United States.

Wilson assured Atmar of America’s continued commitment to and cooperation with Afghanistan.
