AGO-MoI joint body arrests 1,637 absconders

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The joint committee of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) and the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) has arrested 1,637 absconders out of 7,639, an official said Tuesday.

Jamshid Rasooli, AGO spokesman along with MoI spokesman Tariq Aryan, told a joint press conference here that arrest warrants for the detainees had been issued in 2016 and 2017.

He said around 5,705 arrest warrants had been issued between 2016 and 2017 years against 7,639 individuals accused of different crimes, violence against womeninfo-icon, administrative corruption and drug smuggling.

The AGO spokesman claimed the culture of impunity had now been eradicated in the country and absconders anywhere in the country would be brought to justice.

He said the AGO and the MoI had created a joint committee for the arrest of proclaimed offenders.

He said the doors of judicial organs were open for all people who could share their documents and views and even accused individuals had the right defend themselves.

Meanwhile, Tariq Aryan said out of 5,705 arrest warrants, 1,246 had been implemented so far.

He added, “So far 1,637 people have been arrested and out of 6,002, 1,086 could not be arrested as they are in enemy areas, 69 others have joined Talibaninfo-icon ranks.”

He said besides the above individuals, 2,735 other criminals have been detained by security forces within the past six months.
