Sep 23, 2020 - 18:21

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): Residents of this capital city of western Ghorinfo-icon province say they have no access to clean drinking water and the authorities should address their problem.

Some residents of the Refugee Township in Ferozkoh City told Pajhwok Afghan News that they have no access to clean drinking water and their womeninfo-icon walked everyday about two kilometers to fetch water home.

One of them Safiullah, a resident of Tapa-i-Shuhada area, complained about the lack of drinking water and said: “There is only one water well in our area and everyone draws water from it after a long wait that sometimes last two to three days. We take three or four jerry cans of water.”

He said the scarcity of drinking water had made their life miserable and the issue should be addressed by the government.

Sayed Yahya, a resident of Jarsifur area, said their water wells had dried up and they consumed polluted water.

Several other residents held similar views and asked the government to pay serious attention to their problem.

Mohammad Mahdavi, a member of the provincial council, said residents had repeatedly complained to them about the water issue and they had shared it with the local government and institutions, but to no avail.

Meanwhile, Mayor Mohammad Arif Qazizada said various governmental and non-governmental organizations had been trying to transfer clean water from remote areas to Ferozkho for the past 10 years but due to intervention of powerful individuals, they were unable to solve the problem.
