Sep 23, 2020 - 17:02

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Provincial Council (PC) members of northern Kunduz province on Wednesday said security situation had deteriorated in the province which could fall to Talibaninfo-icon insurgents if no attention was paid.

PC head Amruddin Walli said the Taliban were inching closer to Kunduz City, the provincial capital. “The Taliban are one kilometer away from Kunduz City and there are clashes every night,” he said.

Khalid Hakimi, another member of the PC, acknowledged Walli’s claims and said the continued violence was forcing residents to migrate to other places.

He asked security organs to take measures for improvement of the security situation in Kunduz.

Some residents also expressed their concerns over the worsening security situation and demanded urgent action.

Police Chief Brig. Gen. Faqir Mohammad Jawzjani confirmed the security situation had deteriorated recently and said a proper security plan had been devised and its implementation would improve the situation.

Governor Spokesperson Esmatullah Muradi also admitted the surge in violence in Kunduz and said the Taliban should focus on peace instead of violence.
