Surge in Taliban violence unacceptable: Abdullah

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): High National Reconciliation Council (HNRC) chairman Abdullah Abdullah has said violence increased with the start of intra-Afghan talks, which is not acceptable to the people of Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Abdullah said this while addressing a video link meeting of US Foreign Relations Council.  “We hope that the historic intra-Afghan talks in Doha would end bloodshed in the country, which is ongoing from the past four decades,” he said.

He said peace and stability in Afghanistan was in the interest of all regional countries because every nation faced equal threat from terrorists.

He termed the achievements of past the two decades such as womeninfo-icon rights, elections, freedom of expression and civil societyinfo-icon activities as important for the Islamic Republic.

Abdullah said he would travel to Pakistaninfo-icon in soon to discuss peace related issues with Pakistani leaders. He stressed on reduction in violence and ceasefire.

The Talibaninfo-icon and government delegations have been engaged in intensive talks for the last 12 days in Qatar to agree upon the code of conduct for future talks.
