65 Taliban killed, 35 wounded in Paktika clash

SHARANA (Pajhwok): Dozens of Talibaninfo-icon fighters and three security personnel have been killed during a clash and airstrike in the Waza Khwa district of southeastern Paktika province, an official said Thursday.

Police chief Col. Nisar Ahmad Abdul Rahimzai told Pajhwok Afghan News the insurgents stormed the district’s center from several directions late Wednesday night.

In the ensuing clash, he said, 65 insurgents were killed and another 35 wounded as the security forces called in air support. He said 27 bodies of the militants still remained on the battle ground.

Three policemen were also killed and six wounded in the nighttime attack, he said.

Abdul Ghani Paktian, a resident of the area, also confirmed the clash between Afghan security forces and Taliban insurgents in their area. He said both the sides suffered causalities.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the clash.
