Atmar, Blake discuss Afghan peace parleys

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok):  The acting foreign minister has appreciated United Kingdom’s cooperation with the Afghan government and people over the past 19 years.

Hanif Atmar met British Ambassador to Afghanistaninfo-icon Alison Blake here on Wednesday, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Thursday.

The minister praised UK Minister of State for Commonwealth and United Nations Lord Tariq Ahmad’s comprehensive speech at the inaugural ceremony for the Afghan peace talks.

Referring to the peace process, Atmar said a humanitarian ceasefire and a mechanism for monitoring reduction of violence, preserving achievements of the past 19 years and expanding cooperation were important for the success of the process.

Blake congratulated the people and the government of Afghanistan on the commencement of the peace talks and hoped the dialogue would reach a favourable outcome.

She reiterated her government’s continued support for the Afghan peace process, strengthening regional and international consensus and preserving the democratic achievements of the past 19 years.

The two sides stressed the need for the expansion of cooperation between Afghanistan and the UK. Blake assured Atmar of UK’s continued commitment to Afghanistan.
