A million individuals die globally from Covid-19

Sep 28, 2020 - 13:59

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Around one million individuals have lost their lives to the Covid-19 pandemic around the globe, with 33 million infected, news reports say.

After emerging in the Wuhan city of China last December, the COVID-19 pandemic has spread to at least 210 countries, affecting millions of individuals.

In initial weeks, mostly Chinese people were infected and killed by the virus, which has now been controlled by Beijing. But the disease is spreading rapidly in Europe and America.

Statistics showed on Monday that 33 million people have been infected worldwide and one million have died from the disease -- most of them in European countries and the US.

Data from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States indicate nearly 24 million people have recovered from the pandemic and returned to normal life globally.

Media reports say more than 6.321 million individuals have contracted the virus in the US, where over 200,009 have been killed as of Monday morning.

Also on Monday, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) in Kabul said only six new COVID-19 cases had been registered in Afghanistan, taking the nation’s tally to 39,233.
