Senate asks govt to seriously probe Kapisa rape

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Meshrano Jirgainfo-icon on Tuesday urged the government to take serious steps against individuals accused of sexually abusing two womeninfo-icon in central Kapisa province.

Seven people have been arrested over raping two women in Kapisa province last Friday night.

Senators discussed the issue at today’s session. Mahiuddin Munsif, a lawmaker from Kapisa province, said, “Those involved in the case should be punished according to Islamic law.”

Senate first deputy chairman Mohammad Alam Ezdiyar, said: “Non-implementation laws and the culture of impunity are to blame for such events in the country.”

He urged judicial organs to be impartial and investigate the rape case without accepting any pressure from the government or members of the National Assembly.

He called the rape a shame and sough severe punishment for the perpetrators in order others could learn a lesson.

Gulali Akbari, another lawmaker from northeastern Badakhshan province, said, “Those who committed the crime tarnished the men’s name and they should be punished as soon as possible.”

A number of other senators held similar views and urged the government to take measures like in the Paghman case.

Senate chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar also condemned the incident and announced his full cooperation with the victims. He called on the judiciary and the president to take the Kapisa case as seriously as the Paghman case.
