2,000 youth gather to formulate high council plan

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Around 2,000 young people attended a gathering at the Loya Jirgainfo-icon tent in Kabul on Tuesday to work out a plan for formation of a high youth council.

Shahpoor Zhaman, head of the Councils Coordination Affairs at the Presidential Palace, said a special presidential decree had recommended formation a high youth council to be comprised of youth representatives from across the country to make a healthy use of the youth blood.

He added: “Unfortunately in the last 40 years the youth was used as fuel of war, they bravely defended their country and showed enough courage, but the time has come to involve the youth in all government affairs and major decisions.”

He added around 2,000 youths, including girls from eight zones of the country, attended today’s event and their aim was to formulate a strong strategy for the High Youth Council (HYC).

Sami Hamid, Presidential Adviser on Innovation, told the meeting that the majority of Afghanistaninfo-icon’s population was young who should be given adequate participation in all matters to take full advantage of their strong power.

He said the High Youth Council was being formed to address the existing problems of the youth.

Limah Anwari, a participant from capital Kabul, said over the past few years, Afghanistan has been supporting international conventions emphasizing the role of womeninfo-icon and youth in governance and peace.

She said, “We must be aware of national and international laws, take advantage of them. We must use our higher educationinfo-icon to the best of our ability to defend our rights.”

A number of other participants held similar views and stressed on the need of forming the youth council.
