KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): A senior US diplomat on Thursday handed over 100 state of the art ventilators to Public Healthinfo-icon Minister Ahmad Jawad Usmani to help Afghanistaninfo-icon’s fight against coronavirus.

In a tweet, US Charge d Affaires Ross Wilson said: “This week, health care workers across #Afghanistan received training on how to use the 100 state-of-the-art ventilators donated by to fight #COVID19. Health Minister Usmani thanked the US for its support and termed the donated machines a much-needed medical equipment in the treatment of coronavirus patients.

He dubbed the US as Afghanistan’s major partner in the health sector, adding that from the past 20 years, Washington has supported Afghanistan’s heath sector through different projects.

He acknowledged that besides the donation of 100 ventilators, the US provided training to some health workers on how to use them.

Referring to the second wave of coronavirus, he said efforts had been taken nation-wide and preparations put in place to deal with the second wave of the respiratory virus.

This comes as 39,285 people in Afghanistan contracted coronavirus since its outbreak last year and out of them 1,458 have died and 32,842 others recovered.
