Ghani not in favor of peace, alleges ex-minister

JALALABAD: (Pajhwok): Former Hajjinfo-icon and Religious Affairs Minister Abdul Hakim Munib alleged on Thursday that President Ashraf Ghani did not want peace in the country in order to stay in power.

Munib, who heads the Harakat-a-Enqelab Islami party, also alledged that the president was trying to sabotage the peace process .

Addressing a gathering of religious scholars and his suppoerters in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, he said the government was not treating reglious scholars well.

“The president wants to remain in power and for his political mission, he is opposed to the peace process and has been trrying to sabotage the ongoing peace efforts”, he claimed.

Munib stressed that peace was significant more than anything else and that the Afghan government and the Talibaninfo-icon should set aside previlages and power and think about how to stop the ongoing bloodshed.

He said the government had ignored ulemainfo-icon while fulfilling the demands of ulema was its responsibility.

He alleged that the government was spending resources on creating divisions in political parties and ulema, therefore it had adopted a discriminatory policy to achieve that goal.

The former hajj minister said that creating hurdles by any side in the way of the peace process was not acceptable to them.
