PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistaninfo-icon’s Prime Minister Imran Khan has characterised as “interesting” his meeting with Afghanistaninfo-icon’s High Council for National Reconciliation (HCNR) Chairman Dr Abdullah Abdullah.

Khan met Kabulinfo-icon’s chief pace negotiator in Islamabad on Tuesday during his three-day visit to Pakistan. Important issues related to the peace process in Afghanistan came up for discussion.

On Wednesday, the prime minister tweeted that his discussions with Abdullah centered on how the neighbours should learn lessons from the past and avoid living in it.

"We had a very interesting conversation: theme being the past is an invaluable teacher to learn from but not to live in," wrote Khan, who has long stressed a political settlement in Afghanistan

Abdullah’s visit to Islamabad came as intra-Afghan peace negotiations resumed a few days ago in Doha. The Talibaninfo-icon and the government in Kabul are trying to end the long-running conflict in the country.

On Tuesday, Abdullah told an event at the Institute of Strategic Studies in Islamabad: “The time is now for both nations to make a further detour, define a new vision, address outstanding issues and realise that peace and stability in Afghanistan or any country in our south and central Asian geography will] have a far-reaching ripple effect.”

He went on to commend Pakistan’s role in facilitating the Afghan peace process and its efforts to ensure dignified, durable and sustainable peace in Afghanistan.
