KABUL along the border.

Interior Minister Gen. Mujtaba Patang praised Afghan security personnel for beating back the attackers, supported by certain Pakistani circles, a reference to the ISI.

“Despite abetment from certain Pakistani circles, the militants can neither face the Afghan security forces nor fuel unrest in the country,” the minister said in a statement.

While denouncing the neighbouring country’s support to the insurgents, Patang called for an immediate halt to the attacks in border areas.

He said Afghan forces had killed 45 fighters, including five would-be suicide bombers, during operations in Helmand, Logar, Kunduz, Maidan Wardak, Balkh, Kunar, Faryab, Ghazni, Uruzgan, Zabul and Kandahar provinces.

A day earlier, the Kamdesh district of eastern Nuristan province came under missile strike from Pakistan‘s soil. Dozens of missiles have landed in Gordesh area since Thursday night, Nuristan’s acting police chief said.

Col. Farooq Nuristani said at least one person had been killed and three others wounded as a result of the cross-border attacks. “The missile strikes have also entailed financial losses.”
