KABUL): Some foreigners were making hectic efforts to divide Afghananistan, a number of parliamentarians alleged on Sunday, saying the Afghans would never allow such sinister conspiracies to succeed.
A day earlier, President Hamid Karzai claimed several foreign countries, including Pakistan by trying to promote a federal system there. He claimed such efforts had been ongoing over past six months, but the endeavours would not come to fruition.
During Sunday’s session, a Meshrano Jirga wanted to split up the country, but the Afghans would frustrate such designs, Gul Mohammad Azami added.
The Afghans had frustrated similar efforts in the past, recalled the lawmaker, who remarked: “They say history doesn’t repeat itself. But it will if anyone tries to divide our homeland.”
Another senator from central Bamyan province alleged a global attempt at bringing the Taliban to power in some southern provinces and dividing the war-torn country into two parts. But Hidayatullah Rehayee said the bid was bound to be frustrated by the nation.
Mohammad Alam Ezidyar, the first deputy chairman, said the patriotic Afghans would put up stout resistance against the conspirators, who were plotting their country’s breakup.
Chairman Fazal Hadi Muslimyar said the former Soviet Union, Britain and other nations had made similar attempts in the past. But they were subjected humiliating defeat. “No one should dream of breaking up our country.”
Muslimyar said: “If the plots still persist, we are ready to quit Parliament and defend our motherland.” He insisted Afghan communities, working for peace and stability, would never put up with plots aimed at their country’s dismemberment.
