Contract signed to partially rebuild Kabul-Jalalabad road

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Three uplift projects, including rehabilitation of a 53-kilometer portion of the Jalalabad-Kabul highways were signed on Tuesday between the Public Works Ministry and private companies.

Public Works Minister Yama Yari told Pajhwok Afghan News the Kabul-Jalalabad highway would rehabilitated in one year at a cost of $4.7 million provided by the Asian Development Bank.

The two other projects include graveling of a 16-kilometer road costing 8.5 million afghanis from Jaghori district to Karghana tunnel in southern Ghazni province.

Construction of a 33-km road connecting Ferozkoh, the capital of central Ghorinfo-icon province, with Maidan Bazaar area was also kicked off.

The projects’ implementation would facilitate the residents of Nangarhar, Badakhshan, Ghazni and Ghor provinces, said the minister, who assured monitoring of progress on the projects.

The minister said urgent asphalting of the Salang highway required 500 million afghanis, but the Ministry of Finance had released 300 million afs.
