8 passengers killed, 40 injured in Farah roadside bombing

FARAH CITY (Pajhowk): Eight people were killed and 40 others wounded on Tuesday when a passenger bus struck a roadside bomb in western Farah province, an official said.

Nasir Mehri, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident took place on the Farah-Herat highway in the Farah Rod area of Bala Baluk district at 4am.

He said the bus heading to Farah City from Herat hit the roadside mine, killing eight people, including a woman. Twenty of the injured in critical condition were moved to the zonal hospital.

Herat Zonal Hospital spokesman Mohammad Rafiq Sherzai confirmed receiving two injured womeninfo-icon, two children and two men.

Mehri accused the Talibaninfo-icon of planting the landmine. The militant movement, however, has not yet commented on the bombing.

Meanwhile, President Ashraf Ghani strongly condemned the roadside blast targeting civilians, especially scholars, women and children.

The president slammed the attack as an act against a recent fatwainfo-icon issued by religious scholars from the Muslim worldinfo-icon. The scholars said attacks on civilians were forbidden in Islam.

According to the Makkah Declaration, there is no justification for the current conflict in Afghanistaninfo-icon.

Ghani extend his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of the martyrs and whished speedy recovery to the wounded, his office said in a statement.
