KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Civil societyinfo-icon activists and Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon candidates on Monday strongly criticized the removal of some individuals from the list candidates and demanded explanation in this regard.

According to a Special Commission for Assessment of individuals spearheading private and illegal armed groups had said the names of 25 Wolesi Jirga candidates had been removed from the list but these individual preserved the right of appeal.

The commission has not declared their names, but Allah Gul Mujahid, Sher Ali Ahmadzai, Fawzia Kofi, Noor Ahmad Sikandari and Yousuf Amin Zazai alleged their names had been removed from the list and termed it a politically-motivated and wrong action against them.

Scores of supporters of Mujahid and Ahmadzai had earlier asked the government to reconsider the decision of removing the two from the list of candidates.

“No explanation is given to us, the government ordered removal of my name from the list in a politically motivated case,” said lawmaker Allah Gul Mujahid.

Sher Ali Ahmadzai said his name had been removed because the president wanted to show the people that he could remove his cousin as well from contesting the election.

He alleged the names of individuals possessing hundreds weapons and armed men in Kabul City remained in the list.

Some civil society activists during a press conference also denounced the special commission’s decision to remove names of some individuals.

Safiullah Sultani, a civil society activist, said the names of Wolesi Jirga candidates should not have been removed because they promoted democracy in the country.

He asked the commission to provide explanation in this regard to the individuals removed from the list.
