Stand by promise made to Ghani: Gen. Bajwa

Stand by promise made to Ghani: Gen. Bajwa

Aug 18, 2018 - 11:27

PESHAWAR (Pajhwok):  The Pakistaninfo-icon army chief says he stands by his commitment to the Afghan president to ensure all measures that could facilitate peace in in the neighbouring country.

Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa’s remarks came soon after President Ashraf Ghani asked him to live up to his promise of addressing allegations of cross-border support for Talibaninfo-icon.

In response, Bajwa urged Kabulinfo-icon to look inward as the problem had roots inside Afghanistaninfo-icon. The solution, thus, lay in making progress in reconciliation efforts as well as implementation of Afghanistan Pakistan Action Plan for Peace and Stability (APAPPS).

“The COAS reiterates that there is no support to any terrorist activity inside Afghanistan from Pakistan side,” the ISPR said in a statement.

A week ago, some 1,000 Taliban fighters stormed Ghazni City and retreated five days later. Defence Minister Tariq Shah Bahrami and other officials claimed externalinfo-icon elements including Pakistanis aided the Taliban.

The ISPR statement noted: “There are scores of Pakistanis working in Afghanistan in connection with various businesses/labour who periodically fall victim to terrorism inside Afghanistan. Terming such victims terrorists is unfortunate”.

Moreover, the army media wing said, different factions of TTP hiding in Afghanistan under Afghan identities -- on in case of death or injuries -- were transported into Pakistan for medical help.
