War in Afghanistan has no religious justification: Ghani

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday stressed that the war in Afghanistaninfo-icon ‘has no religious justification’ and that those who believed in bloodshed and endangering peace should rethink their minds.

In his Eidul Ahda holiday speech after offering Eid prayers at the Presidential Palace mosqueinfo-icon, Ghani said he offered another ceasefire based on the national consensus.

The president said “this great nation is a pain and mischief and always defends its independence, freedom and Islamic traditions.”

He added that their actions were based on consensus of Islamic scholars, the fatwainfo-icon of 2,900 religious scholars, after which their fatwa was confirmed by the scholars of Indonesia and Makkah and all major Islamic centers.

"It indicates that there is no religious justification for war. There is no justification for suicide and explosions in Afghanistan.”

Ghani said 93 percent of the Afghanistan people wanted peace according to a recent poll.

The president said national and religious days were the honors and identity of all Afghans. “Celebrating these days is an opportunity to consolidate national unity and honorary days and commemorate the national and Islamic values.”

Ghani said: “I wish that, thanks to these happy days, peace and stability will be strengthened in our beloved country.”

He said Afghans offering this year pilgrimage were offering prayers for peace and stability
