There is not a day in Afghanistan when dozens of families are not mourning on the deathbed of their loved ones lost for unknown causes. At the average base, 30-40 Afghan National Security Forces are losing their live against malicious enemy of democracy and sworn war-mongers. As an Afghan, I do admit to go through such catastrophic days to preserve the newly engendered democratic values in my country but of course, cannot endure the destruction of the foundations our future relies on.

Wounding 44 and Killing 13 students including the shrewd young professor Naqib Ahmad khpalwak of American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) in cold-blood put every Afghan into cry. They have been the hope for brighter future and oracle of committed leadership for the future.

Do terrorists of every type believe they can undermine the learning processes in Afghanistan? Do they think they can lit-off the lights toward our future? Do they plan to snatch the hope from the hearts of committed youngsters who willingly started to jeopardize their life and salvage the mission of change and development?

Certainly they do plan alike. They do trust to scorch our schools, burn down our universities, decapitate our lecturers, bomb our mosques, and intoxicate Afghan girls who follow their leadership commitment for coming generation will frustrate them and finally such efforts will face dead-halt, but the terrorists must know that they will never reach their hopes even in million years.

The youngsters of Afghanistan understand the complexity of global politics and regional proxy wars. As the nation of third world have already put on the full speed but minimum 70 countries have been paying the prices against the terrorists of such destructive mentalities.

GCPEA asserted that both developed and developing countries are suffering such dilemma. During 2009-2013, more than 1000 orchestrated attacks occurred toward academic institutions, 1000 teachers received death-threats, and 140 lecturers lost their life in the way. Pakistan topped the rank with 724 incidents against academic environments, Thailand in the second with 205 and Afghanistan in the third row with 203 incidents that put a sad mark on our minds.

Syria and Libya suffer the same disasters. Nigerians lost 276 schools’ girls kidnapped by Boko Haram.  Between the years 2003-2012, more than 500 academic personalities have been killed who were raising voice against bad deeds of the government, terrorists or international communities. The axis-of-evils around the world, no matter who they are, and where they are from, understand that killing educated portion of a country is an immediate end to the resistance of a nation toward their backroom plans.

The whole world is overwhelmed under the heavy whacks of wrong-doers and Afghanistan is not exceptional though. Drug Mafia, violators, rental killers, war lords, gun lords and doers of all type sinister acts assume education and the self-aware Afghan youngsters as the worrying signal and stumbling-block toward their plans in the future.  As the country’s literacy rate is still not above 28% even though huge treasuries are spent during the last decade; civil and armed mafia can easily accomplish their goals when nations are under the dark if ignorance.

Afghan public is digging graves every day and the unity government always busy condemning the incidents after it happens. It has been the routine. It has been the habits and it has been the play of hide and seeks for kids. The failure to ensure public safety, peace with the Taliban, regional consensus, and sustainable economic development along with the help of global partners has been the growing grievances of public and therefore the attack at the AUAF located at the heartland is unbearable anymore.

The Unity Government always throws the blame on Pakistan immediately after the incidents but never stop the incidents to happen beforehand. The government never talks about the amount of explosive, the tricks used and the means of transporting the terrorists and ammunition. The game of blame and counter-blame between Afghanistan and Pakistan cannot solve the problem but realistic, logical, constant and serious talk and measurable actions with Pakistan, international stakeholders and the pro-terrorists elements inside and outside the government can be the only way out.

None of Afghans remained untouched by the senseless and fatal attack at AUAF but soon the incident will be forgotten and again such a disastrous show will happen. Again the government will visit wounded people in the government and again the vicious prayers of killing game will be out to showcases more dead bodies.

On 24 Aug 2016, the incident started with the car bombing the destroyed the entrance wall and then the horror movie started. About 7 armed terrorists started blind shooting with no difference among male, female, teacher, old, black or white. After hours, you could see the carnage victims lays everywhere gasping and screaming for a gulp of water but no one could reach them for help. Witnesses were watching them dying with thousands hopes and dreams for a brighter future.

Now I ask how long this unending drama will go on? How long the Afghans will be bearing brunt of human loses? How long Afghanistan will be going through such apocalypses every day?

The answers for the questions above will remained unanswered for long time but one thing is certain and that is the adamant commitment of the Afghans who will turn the page and will change their destiny by their own hands. They do understand that fighting terroristic mentalities is a challenge but not unsurmountable. The only panacea to thwart firebrand fighters and all those determined to ruin our foundations is education. Afghan youngsters will continue no matter what happens next but the end will be ours for sure.
