Almost all provinces of Afghanistan to study in.

The Afghan law for children rights protection became much debated issue in the Afghan Parliament which has finally passed and sanctioned by president Ghani on march 11 2019. The law of children rights protection consisted children rights for citizenship, identity, registration and birth, the right to be breast-fed, prohibiting the misuse of children, prohibiting abusing children, having the right of freedom for the children of religious minorities, the right of access to service and the right of education.

The last element of the law ‘the right of education’ is the most ignored issue harshly caused by the apathy of government and the ministry of education. The absence of government’s realistic actions upon facilitating poor students with educational standards in both cities and remote areas has been a rampant conundrum.

Whilst the law was being introduced to the public by the second vice president Sarwar Danish during his speech he said “The children condition has been so ‘shocking’ from the past two years and almost 44% of the children are deprived of education” the percentage of the deprived children is due the fact that the educational system of Afghanistan was entirely destabilized during the decades of country’s domestic skirmish of so-called Jihad. Danish also vowed of striving with full potential to implementing the law but the term of ‘children’s approach to a facilitated education’ has become more worsening than ever before.

We have dozens of precedents of such miserable situations of schools and we take the case of Jalalabad city for instance a school, possessed at the 9th district of Jalalabad city nearby the airport base of military forces and general cemetery of Sakhi Sahib Morh, having been passing severe problems that are outlined in few bottom-lines below:

  • Students studying in school are akin with soldiers at frontline: The school has its possession in a very threatful spot near to the military base of US coalition forces and Afghan army. Many times, there are missiles fired on the airport base form anonymous places that are meant to hit inside base area but due to the defense system exist inside base that resist incoming threatful staffs, they mostly strike people’s houses and non-governmental properties and injure civilians. Anyhow, the place where school exists is not off from the target course where mostly missiles hit the ground. Such incidents of missiles launching is witnessed by school students’ right in front of their eyes near to the school.

•Infrastructural deprivation of students:

Instead of a proper building and better constructed classes the school is made of tents and students get more vacations rather than the official schedule for holidays. Both Students and teachers can’t attend the classes when it is raining because the classes’ floors turn into mires and the rainy drops rush the classrooms from pores.

•Teachers’ brute stance:

Teacher physically hurting students and beating them with woody sticks is another draconian issue because of which most students see no magnitude and enthusiasm to attending school. The unfair acts of physically punishing students are banned in the official law for school students and no single punishment is allowed to be given to the students by teachers for any reason.

Teachers are consulted, at least once in a year, by the trainers of ministry of education and escorted them the ways to psychologically keep students amused with other productive activities instead of using violence.

•Government’s Inability Toward distribution of Whole Timetable Books;

In private schools, students buy books with their  own expenses but in governmental schools ministry of education is responsible to distribute entire bunch of books to each student regarding the schedule of each level of class. Though, not having convincible platform of books students are taught superficially and bookless so neither they have specific notion of what they study nor can perceive lessons by its actual concept of meanings.

•Local and Regional Socio-Political Tensions:

Meanwhile the current political disorder in which ‘peace talks and inconvenience of candidates of the result of presidential elections and the ever-spreading concerns of COVID-19 became much debated terms. Meanwhile, the inadequate attention to ‘children’s right to education’ is another serious issue and to figure it out it will require a negotiated educational settlement and a consensus of officials that will be likely prevent the emergence of another domestic violence possibly caused by unschooled children.

To conclude; all schools of Afghanistan specifically, secondary school of Sakhi Sahib Morh, needs immediate financial contribution that can provide students an auspicious erection in a secured environment. A team of inspection should be launched by the government on teachers to sentence them for having been indulged in malpractice of their position through discharging violence against students.
