President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani took yet another bold step to announce a temporary truce with the Taliban showing Afghan government commitment and willingness for durable peace and stability in the county.

The decision to observe ceasefire during the last days of Ramadan and Eid festival would have for reaching impacts on over all security situation and ongoing insurgency in the county.

It look like that Afghan government with the support of international community is taking soft and hard decision to penetrate deep inside the Taliban and create cracks within the sympathizers of the Taliban by showing them that Afghan government and global community had decided to put every kind of pressure on the Taliban to reconcile.

The ceasefire decision forced the Taliban to think differently, this time they cannot respond with harsh manner because they always claimed to have been more peace loving than anyone else and this time the Afghan government challenged them with a step towards peace.

The Taliban thus reciprocated in the same manner. The group official announced it will honor the ceasefire during Eid.

Afghan government is giving the Taliban both opportunities to seek their response on peace and at the same time they military targeted. The announcement of peace strategy was a massive development and it included more realist options for peace if implemented.

The Taliban had been silent and did not respond to the Afghan government peace offer months back during the crucial Kabul is looking for the Taliban response on it.

Now is the best time for the ceasefire offer because global efforts for peace and stability in the country had been accelerated, the recent ulema and US growing contacts with Islamabad to seek its support in giving new energy to the peace process.

The United States and Pakistan have worked together in arranging a temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan, hoping that it would jump-start the Afghan reconciliation process, official and diplomatic sources told Dawn.

A senior US official confirmed that Washington was pursuing “multiple lines of effort” for bringing peace to Afghanistan and an important component of that effort was to ensure that Pakistan played “a constructive role” in it.

The US, NATO, and Afghan government experienced everything ranging from hard power to soft power to make Afghanistan stable democratic country.

The international community had understood that stability to Afghanistan could come by bringing the Taliban to the negotiation table therefore US and its allies had often reiterated that the Taliban would be militarily pressurized to come to the negotiating table.
