PAN greets nation on 96th Independence Day

KABUL) on Wednesday conveyed good wishes and greeted the nation on the auspicious day.

The Independence Day is being celebrated throughout out the country with national zeal and enthusiasm by holding special programmes and ceremonies.

Former King Ghazi Amanullah achieved independence from Great Britain 96 years ago, though Afghanistan has never been a British colony.

The first Anglo-Afghan war took place in 1839, the second in 1880 and the third in 1919. The British were forced to strike a deal with Afghans and declare Afghanistan an independent state.

PAN hopes that the country would navigate on path to progress, prosperity and stability. On Tuesday, officials said that all preparations, including security measures, had been finalized to mark the Independent Day countrywide.

Huge gathering are expected to take place today (Wednesday) at the tomb of former king Ghazi Amanullah Khan, who declared Afghanistan as independent state on Aug, 19, 1919.

Similarly, preparations are underway to conduct gatherings in several parts of the province to pay tribute to the independence heroes.
