64 militants, 12 soldiers killed in new wave of violence

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Sixty-four rebels and a dozen soldiers have been killed in a new wave of violence in different provinces over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Defence said on Friday.

Afghan forces conducted a string of operations to protect the lives and property of people and crush terrorism in various parts of the country, a statement from the ministry said.

Backed by the air force, the operations were conducted in Kunar, Laghman, Ghazni, Paktia, Logar, Khost, Wardak, Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Ghorinfo-icon, Farah, Badghis, Herat, Kunduz, Baghlan, Faryab and Helmand provinces.

As a result, the statement added, 64 armed insurgents were killed, including five local Talibaninfo-icon commanders, and 64 others wounded.

In Farah City, 50 insurgents, including Mullahinfo-icon Zakir Anar Daragai, Mullah Abdullah, Mullah Bin Yamin Shindandi and Mullah Abdul Hamid, were killed.

Another 53 rebels were wounded and 13 vehicle and 9 motorbikes belonging to the fighters were burnt.

In the Andar district of Ghazni province, 10 militants, including commander Mullah Baqi, were killed and four wounded. In Shah Walikot and Ghorak district of Kandahar, four rebels were killed and as many injured.

The ministry added four insurgents were wounded in the Garmser district of Helmand province. During the operations, 12 Afghan National Army soldiers were also martyred.
