All smoke-emitting vehicles being stopped: NEPA

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The National Environmentinfo-icon Protection Authority (NEPA) has aid it has classified vehicles contributing to air pollution in Kabul and shared the list of smoke-emitting vehicles with the Traffic Department.

NEPA officials say they would stop all vehicles that cause pollution from playing roads in Kabul city.

Hamayon Kazim, NEPA head, talking to Pajhwok Afghan News. said, “All vehicles that pollute the air in Kabul will be stopped under an organized program which is also common in other countries for prevention of air pollution.”

“We take number plates and licenses of vehicles that produce smoke and then share them with the Traffic Department, these vehicles would not be allowed to be driven until they are repaired,” he said.

Kazim said their survey showed smoke-emitting and faulty vehicles contributed 65 to 80 percent to air pollution in Kabul.

“These types of vehicles emit carbon and other gases that damage human healthinfo-icon, plants and animals”, he said.

Frozan Seddiqi, a NEPA worker who participated in the presser, said that the aim of launching the program was part of measures to deal with climate change.

Abbas, a resident of Kabul city, welcomed NEPA’s program for environment protection and said besides the government, citizens of the country were also responsible to protect the air from degrading its quality.

He asked elders to promote the culture of preventing air pollution in their families and communities.
