‘16,000 storage facilities for agriculture products being built’

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Agricultureinfo-icon and livestock is building 16,000 agriculture infrastructural facilities this year at the cost of eight billion afghanis, an official said on Wednesday.

Addressing lawmakers in the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon, Deputy Agriculture Minister Hashmatullah Ghafoori said Afghanistaninfo-icon produced 10.5 million tonnes of agriculture products in the past and over six million tonnes of them were exported to foreign countries.

“The government tasked the ministry to prepare plan for the preservation of agriculture products in the wake of coronavirus and the plan was approved by the High Economic Council in March this year,” he said.

As part of this plan the government decided to purchase some of these agriculture products and for the preservation of some products storages were built.

He said in the past most of grapes, onions, tomatoes, melon, watermelon, apricot and potatoes were got rotten were exported but after the construction of storages these products were preserved and prevented from being exported.

As part of the better management and administration of agriculture products the ministry of agriculture is building 16,000 agriculture facilities for the preservation of agriculture products in two months.

Separately, the Finance and Budgetary Commission of the Wolesi Jirga presented the amended draft of the government budget to the house but because the quorum was not completed the approval of the draft was delayed for the coming week.

Syed Azeem Kabarzani, head of the Finance Commission, said that the amended draft budget bill has additional 20 billion afghanis.

He said six billion afghani was the ordinary budget while 16 billion afghanis was allocated to the development budget.
