Taliban rejects Pentagon’s report on maintaining links with Al-Qaida

Jul 03, 2020 - 12:21

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): The Talibaninfo-icon have rejected Pentagon’s report over the group’s links with Al-Qaida Network in the sub-content and said the report aimed at creating confusion in public mind.

The Pentagon has accused the Taliban of continuing to maintain links with Al-Qaeda elements even after signing the Feb. 29 peace deal with the US.

Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent supported and worked with low-level Taliban members to undermine the Afghan government, the Defense Department said in a report on Wednesday.

The terror outfit maintains an enduring interest in attacking US forces and Western targets in the region, according to the congressionally-mandated report

The Taliban in a statement rejected the report and said: “The Islamic Emirates in compliance with its policy never interfered in the affairs of India and other countries and therefore the Taliban did not want to interfere in the affairs of other nations outside the boundaries of Afghanistaninfo-icon.”

The Taliban Spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said: “Afghanistan is under the occupation US and its allies from the past 19-year and fighting the Islamic Emirate so how can the Taliban cooperate with other groups outside Afghanistan besides the presence of a heavy war.”

The Taliban regretted the publication of such a report in a critical time by the US and added the purpose of the report was to confuse public mind.
