JALALABAD (PAN-led international soldiers in Doab district of eastern Nuristan province, the governor said on Friday.

The district’s administrative head, Fida Mohammad and police chief, Allah Dad, were wounded in the raid, which also killed a number of civilians, Governor Jamaluddin Badr told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the exact toll was yet to be known, because walkie-talkies did not work in the remote town. Health officials in Laghman and Nangarhar provinces were asked to take the injured to hospitals there.

The bodies of five civilians and some wounded people, including policemen, were brought to the Laghman Civil Hospital, Director of Public Health Abdul Latif Ayubi said.

The NATO-led force confirmed there had been several airstrikes in support of a combined Afghan-ISAF operation in Doab district on Wednesday. Initial reports indicated that numerous insurgents were killed. It said.

“We have no reports that any civilians were injured during the strikes,” ISAF said in a statement, which rejected claims that Afghan policemen were killed and the district chief wounded.  There had been no strike in that area since Thursday morning, it added.
