QALAT (PAN): Two civilian were killed in two separate incidents in the Shah Joy district of southern Zabul province, officials said on Friday.
The first incident happened early on Friday east of the district centre when a vehicle carrying logistic supplies for foreign troops struck a man, the district chief, Mohammad Sadiq, told Pajhwok Afghan News. The man died on his way to hospital, he said.
The second incident also happened in the district centre at around 7am Friday. Unknown gunmen sprayed bullets at a civilian identified as Sardar Mohammad, according to Sadiq. The gunmen had managed to flee after the killing, he said.
Sadiq said the murder was a result of personal enmity and that police had launched an investigation.
Resident Nazir Ahmad said Sardar Mohammad was sitting in front of a shop in the district bazaar when two men shot him with pistols and fled.
But the Taliban said they had killed Mohammad for his alleged links to foreign troops.
Rebel spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said Sardar Mohammad was a contractor with foreign troops.
But the district chief dismissed Ahmadi’s claim, saying the victim was an ordinary person and was killed by his foes.
