SHIBERGHAN (PAN): The northern Jawzjan province revenue surged by $1.99 million (55 million afs) in 2011 — reflecting a 40 percent hike compared to 2010, an official said on Saturday.

The total gross income of the provincial revenue department hit 190 million afs in 2011, while the 2010 revenue was 135m afs, Ghulam Farooq Laghmani, the department’s head told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the income indicates a 12 percent increase against what the finance ministry had predicted.

“Based on the ministry’s estimate, we suppose to earn 170m afs in 2011, but fortunately the revenues surpassed the ministry’s prediction,” he said.

The incomes were derived in the form of taxes from private companies and government employees’ salaries, rental from residential flats and vehicle taxes, Laghmani said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Wahid Azerlo, the governor’s spokesman, linked the increase in revenue to soaring number of private firms in the province.
