WASHINGTON (PAN.
“We’ve said in the past and continue to say that Iran needs to play a more constructive role in the region,” State Department spokesman Mark Toner told reporters at his daily news briefing.
He was responding to questions on the recent remarks by Ambassador Abul Fazal Zuhrawand who requested the Upper House of Parliament to reject the recently-signed strategic deal between Kabul and Washington, a demand strongly denounced by Afghan lawmakers.
“All of Afghanistan’s neighbours need to play constructive roles in stabilising and in creating a more prosperous and stable Afghanistan,” Toner said. “It’s in everyone’s interest to do so. It’s a win-win, frankly, for the region. So we would just, as we’ve done in the past, urge Iran to play a constructive role.”
