JALALABAD (PAN):  The insurgents have kidnapped the Want Waigal Local Council chief in the remote eastern province of Nuristan, an official said on Monday.

Karim Khan was handcuffed along with an associate and taken to an undisclosed location by the insurgents late on Sunday night, the provincial governor said.

Tamim Nuristani told Pajhwok Afghan News getting specific information about the elder’s whereabouts and the reason for his kidnapping was difficult because the town was under Taliban’s control.

Police chief Col. Ghulamullah verified the elder’s abduction in the Aranch area. He said Karim Khan, popular with district residents, had a large number of supporters.
