MAZAR-I-SHIF (PAN): Sixteen people were killed and as many others wounded during a roadside bomb explosion in northern Balkh province, officials said on Friday.
The incident took place at around 9am when a civilian van struck the bomb in the Sadarabad area of Daulatabad district, the police spokesman, Shebar Jan Durrani, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Most of the victims were children and women of planting the bomb.
But a senator from the area, Abdul Majid, put the toll at 16 dead and 11 injured. He said some of his relatives were among the casualties.
Sixteen wounded people, many of them in critical condition, were brought to the Mazar-i-Sharif Civil Hospital, said a doctor, Mohammad Daud Rostaee.
