KANDAHAR/KUNDUZ (PAN): Two local policemen turned their guns on colleagues in southern Kandahar province, killing three of them before making their escape good, officials said on Tuesday. In northeastern Kunduz, a “mentally-retarded” local policeman had killed his mother.
The apparently insider attack in Kandahar also left another two Afghan Local Police (ALP) members injured in Nalgham area of Zheri district on Monday night, the governor’s spokesman, Javed Faisal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The Zheri district chief, Haji Jamal Agha, said the rogue ALP officers had managed to escape, but police were trying to catch them.
He said those who had recommended the pair would also be questioned in connection with the attack.
A Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf Ahmadi said a commander of the local police force was among the three killed in the Nalgham attack.
In Kunduz, a local police member allegedly shot dead his mother in the Khanabad district early on Tuesday. Police have launched a manhunt for the 18-year-old, the district chief said.
Family sources said the killer was a mental patient.
