MAIDAN SHAHAR (PAN): Seven people, including militants and civilians, have been killed and several others wounded in the central province of Maidan Wardak, an official said on Friday.
Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the casualties occurred in Nirkh, Jaghatu, Jalrez and Sayedabad districts.
Senior Taliban Najeeb was killed along with an associate during an overnight security operation in the Dadal area of Nirkh. Security forces recovered 65 kilograms of explosive and ammunition.
Similarly, two militants were arrested during an offensive in Jaghatu, the spokesman said, adding two pistols, a laptop, landmine and ammunition were seized from the detainees.
In the Maro village of Syedabad district, two men were killed and six others injured as a result of infighting between two Taliban factions, Khogyani said.
Separately, an Afghan soldier was killed following an intense gunfight with militants in Chak district, which also left two civilians dead.
In other news, a clash between residents left two civilians dead and three others injured in the Lwara locality of Syedabad.
