KANDAHAR CITY (PAN): Three militants killed and 14 smugglers arrested as a result of operations during the current week in southern Kandahar province, security official said.
Six insurgents were also detained and some ammunition and drugs seized in the operations, the deputy police chief, Col. Rahmatullah Atrafi, told a weekly news conference here.
During the outgoing week, 10 joint and 13 special operations were conducted across the province as part of efforts to enforce security in Kandahar. Six suicide vests, 128 mines, four grenades and 82 kilograms of ball bearings were seized.
He said 110 kilograms of gunpowder, one RPG, two machineguns along with magazines, seven AK 47s, two pistols and ammunitions were also seized during the operations, Atrafi said, adding a police vehicle was also recovered.
According to Atrafi, 5.69 kilograms of heroin, 80 kilogram of opium, 300 kilograms of hashish, 15 litres of alcoholic beverages and a motorcycle were recovered.
Javed Faisal, the governor’s spokesperson, said four AK 47s and ammunitions were seized and 64 mines defused during a separate operation in Panjwai district.
