Suspected guerrillas detained in Baghlan

Apr 30, 2011 - 14:40

PUL-I-KHUMRI (PANinfo-icon): A joint Afghan-international security force arrested four people on the charge of aiding insurgents in northern Baghlan province, ISAFinfo-icon and local officials said on Saturday.

The operation was launched in pursuit of a Talibaninfo-icon commander in Baghlan-i-Markazi district late on Friday night, the NATOinfo-icon-led force said in a statement. Four suspected militants were detained, it added.

A security official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the operation was conducted in Qushlaq Kandariha area. However, he was unable to say whether the detainees had any links to the Taliban. He said the men were being interrogated.

But provincial council deputy head, Asadullah Shahbaz, said the detainees had no ties to the militants. One of the arrested men was a tribal elder's brother, he claimed.
