Rebel commander among 20 detained in Farah

FARAH CITY (PANinfo-icon): Twenty suspected militants were detained during a joint operation by Afghan and foreign troops in western Farah province, officials said on Sunday.

The overnight operation was conducted in the Shewan area of Bala Blok district, the provincial police chief, brig Gen. Syed Mohammad Roshan Dil told Pajhwok Afghan News.

A former Talibaninfo-icon commander, Mullahinfo-icon Wakil, was among the detainees, said Gen. Abdul Samad, the National Directorate of Intelligence head in the province. Explosives were also recovered from the men.

Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, the Taliban spokesman, said foreign troops had detained 18 residents with no links to the insurgent movement.

The ISAFinfo-icon media office in Kabulinfo-icon confirmed the detention, and said the detainees were currently under investigation.
