GHAZNI CITY (PAN): Ten major development projects would be completed in southern Ghazni province next year, the governor said on Wednesday.

In an exclusive interview with Pajhwok Afghan News, Musa Khan Akbarzada said initial works on the schemes had been completed and further work would be carried out in spring.

The schemes worth $20 million included the construction of the proposed Islamic Civilisation Centre and 30 kilometres of roads and an airport in Ghazni City, he said.

The Islamic Civilisation Centre would have a mosque, a covered bazaar, a gymnasium, a guesthouse, a hotel and other facilities, the governor added.

Akbarzada explained work on the airport would be launched next solar year, with the central government providing $10m. The rest of funds will come from donors.

In 2007, a meeting of cultural ministers of Islamic countries in Tripoli selected Ghazni City as the Asian capital of the Islamic civilisation for the year 2013.
