GHAZNI (PAN in the capital and 18 districts of southern Ghazni province, officials said on Tuesday.

Construction of the school buildings would take place simultanously, Education Director Ihsanullah Nashir told a news conference in Ghazni City.

He said of the $5 million funds allocated to the education department, more than 50 percent would be spent on the construction of the schools.

Nineteen of the schools will be built by the education ministry and a dozen others by the Provincial Reconstruction) of Poland and the United States.

Students in remote areas of the province, due to lack of proper school buildings, have to study under trees. Mohammad Hashim, a resident of Qarabagh district, said more than 50 percent of students had no access to a proper study environment.  

Wile welcoming the initiative, provincial council secretary, Abdul Wali Khanzada accused the officials concerned of paying little attention to the districts over the past eight years.
