JALALABAD (PAN affairs director was shot dead by two unknown motorcyclists in eastern Laghman province on Monday, an official said.
Two armed motorcyclists gunned down Najia at 8:30am on her way to office in the Chil Mati area on the outskirts of Mehtarlam, the provincial police chief, Col. Fazal Ahmad Sherzad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Sherzad quoted her husband, who recognised the murderers, as saying that Najia had been killed due to a prior enmity.
A witness, Khan Zameer, said Najia was traveling in a motorized rickshaw when armed men attacked her and managed to escape from the scene.
“An investigation has been launched and we have sealed off the area where the attack took place,” Sherzad said.
Najia took up the assignment after her predecessor Hanifa Safi, who was killed in a bomb attack in July.
