ASADABAD (PANinfo-icon): Six patrolling Afghan security officials were injured in an insurgent attack in the eastern province of Kunar, officials said on Friday.

The gun attack took place on Thursday evening in the Duband area of Dangam district, police spokesman Sher Ali told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The injured included three Afghan National Army (ANA) soldiers, two policemen and a National Directorate of Security (NDSinfo-icon) official, he said. They have been evacuated to a healthinfo-icon facility of Afghan forces.

The attackers came from Pakistaninfo-icon, claimed Sakhi Moshwanai, a lawmaker in the Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon, lower house, from Kunar.

The Talibaninfo-icon have asserted responsibility for the assault, with their spokesman saying six soldiers died as a result. The fighters stormed the district headquarters, the Taliban said, a claim dismissed by local security officials.
