ASADABAD (PAN): Five people were killed during a clash between militants and civilians in the Watapur district of eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Wednesday.

The clash erupted on Tuesday evening, when the fighters tried to kidnap two tribal elders in Chardango area, a provincial police spokesman told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Supporters of one tribal elder Haji Ikram Zaman traded fire with the insurgents. Five people, including two tribal elders and three fighters, were killed, the office said.
