JALALABAD (PANinfo-icon): A civilian helicopter was damaged after militants fired three rockets into Jalalabad airport in the eastern province of Nangarhar on early Saturday, an official and ISAFinfo-icon said.

The attack took place around 5am when three rockets landed inside the airfield that houses International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops, an Afghan guard at the facility said on condition of anonymity.

A nearby resident, Tariq, said a huge plume of smoke rose into the air for one hour in the airport after it was hit with rockets.

ISAF media office in Kabulinfo-icon confirmed the incident, saying an ISAF airbase had received a few rounds of unidentified indirect fire.

“According to initial reports, a civilian helicopter was damaged. No ISAF aircraft were reported damaged,” the statement added.
