MAIMANA (PAN commanders in the northern province of Faryab, officials said on Friday.
Dost Mohammad and Ghulam Sakhi were gunned down Thursday night in the Pakhtunkot district, the district police chief, Col. Najibullah, told Pajhwok Afghan News. He suspected prior enmity behind the shooting.
The town’s administrative chief, Abdul Qadir Qadari, said the slain individuals had no government job and lived an ordinary life.
But a Taliban spokesman, Qari Yousuf Ahmadi, claiming responsibility for the killing, said the pair had been supporting the government and were killed in an ambush.
Meanwhile, a man snatched a gun from a guard at a marketplace in Maimana, the provincial capital, and opened fire at police.
The individual was detained after a trade fire that lasted one hour, Faryab police chief Maj. Gen. Nabi Jan Mullahkhel said. He added a 1st police district officer was injured in the incident and that no civilian was hurt.
