Protestors call for Sadat’s trial

JALALABAD (PAN remarks.

The participants, who gathered at the Pashtunistan Square in Jalalabad, asked the government to put on trial Anwar Sadat, a lower house member from northern Sar-i-Pul province, for insulting the majority tribe.

Independent Writers and Journalists Union chief for eastern zone Lal Pacha Azmoon told Pajhwok Afghan News that Sadat had misused the freedom of expression by speaking against the Pakhtuns in the lower house.

“Pashtuns are not biased (towards a particular tribe). We live in Afghanistan and everyone who lives here is Afghan,” the senior journalist remarked.

He said it was not bearable to hear that Pashtuns were terrorists or miscreants because the tribe had always defended the country’s sovereignty and worked for the motherland’s development and prosperity.

He asked the government to put Sadat on the Exit Control List (ECL) and drag him to a court of law.

Youth affairs official Matiullah Ahmadzai strongly condemned Sadat’s remarks and called for his trial. “We will never allow anyone to insult any tribe,” he said, vowing not to sit idle until the lawmaker was tried.

At the end, the protestors issued a statement which asked the parliament to put Sadat on ECL before the start of his trial for treason.

It urged other countries not to give Sadat refuge and warned the government if it failed to try Sadat, they would themselves punish him.
