ASADABAD (PAN): The new governor of eastern Kunar province on Sunday assumed charge, vowing to fight corruption and bribery at government departments and denying any links with any foreign intelligence agency.
“I am a true Afghan and have no links with any foreign intelligence agency. I will not allow anyone to break the laws of the land,” Shujaul Malk Jalala told a ceremony welcoming him.
He said Kunar bordered Pakistan and he wanted good relations with the neighbouring country, hoping Islamabad would bring to an end firing rockets and mortar shells into the eastern province.
“We will not allow the use of Kunar soil against anyone,” he said, calling on the rebels to shun violence and reconcile with the Afghan government.
He promised those shunning violence would be offered incentives and protection to their families.
