SHARANA (PAN): A suicide attacker detonated his explosives-laden car in front of a district headquarters in southeastern Paktika province on Friday, injuring 21 people, including security officials and civilians, police said.

The attack in the Sararoza district took place around 6:30 am, Paktika police chief Brig. Gen. Daulat Khan Zadran told Pajhwok Afghan News. He said the attacker wanted to enter the district headquarters building, but detonated his explosives as stopped by security officials.

There were no fatalities except the bomber, but 21 people, including 10 national police, two transport department officials, one intelligence official, two local police members and three Afghan soldiers and as many civilians, were injured.  The blast caused damages to the district headquarters and other adjacent buildings.

The governor’s spokesman, Mukhlis Afghan, said the blast left behind a large crack in the road.

The Taliban immediately claimed responsibility for the suicide car bombing. Their spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the attack was carried out by a fighter Mohammad, killing dozens of security personnel.

Meanwhile, the police chief said two Taliban insurgents were killed during a clash in the Matakhan district.

The police ambushed the two riding on a motorcycle in the Marjan area on Thursday, Zadran added.
